Woolston Signal Box renovation progresses

Plans by Hampshire Community Rail Partnership to lease and renovate the Grade II Listed Signal Box took a further step forward as Listed Building Consent application was submitted in March. The former Signal Box constructed in 1901 to the London & South Western Railway Type 4 design ceased operational use in 1980 and has since fallen into disrepair. Following consents, Hampshire Community Rail Partnership will renovate and the Signal box will be used for Community rooms. This project represents phase 2 of the Partnerships work at Woolston, complementing the adjacent community garden. Nick Farthing Chair of the Partnership said ” we are delighted to move this forward in close working partnership with TPT and SWR. We are further liaising with the Railway Heritage Trust to determine opportunities for joint funds towards this very exciting scheme for the local Community.”
