Celebrating the Growth of SMEs Across the SWR Network
Amey TPT | 23 January 2026
We are really encouraged to see the recent positive press highlighting the continued rise of independent and small businesses across the South Western Railway network.
With three‑quarters of station retailers now made up of independent SMEs and a further 60 additional businesses added to the network since the pandemic it has assisted in making SWR stations more vibrant commercial and community hubs once again. These independent retailers, from artisan coffee shops to mobile florists, are enriching the customer experience and strengthening local economies.
It’s fantastic to see this success story being recognised so widely across regional media. Recent coverage has come from:
Rail Business Daily
MSN News
Hampshire Chronicle
Sidmouth Herald
Exmouth Journal;
Daily Echo
Bournemouth Echo

It’s great to see such strong entrepreneurial energy across the network being celebrated. These SMEs play a vital role in shaping the character of stations, supporting local jobs, and delivering high‑quality experiences for customers every day.
A huge well‑done to all involved in enabling and supporting this momentum — long may it continue.
