At Amey TPT we’re working alongside multiple clients and industry stakeholders across the rail estate, to maximise use of railway stations for commercial and social value. With our commercial estate expertise, we partner with food businesses like SSP Group plc  to support the delivery of their sustainability strategy on their journey towards net zero. SSP operate with us in over 80 units in train stations, in partnership with our Train Operating Clients.

In 2023 we supported SSP to achieve their sustainability targets by focusing on increasing healthy and sustainable choices, sourcing sustainably, reducing climate impact, transitioning to sustainable packaging, and reducing food waste.

In 2023, the following commitments were achieved across SSP units in the Amey Estate:

💡 SSP are investing in energy efficiency projects and completed the roll out of Automated Meter Readers

🍲 Saved over 54,000 kgs of food from going in the bin through Too Good to Go – the equivalent of c.135 tonnes of CO2e

❄️ Introduced Vortex technology to all M&S units to optimise refrigeration efficiency and energy consumption

🚫 Eliminated unnecessary, problematic single-use plastic, as defined by the WRAP Plastic Pact. Initiatives include replacing plastic drinking straws and cutlery with wood, bamboo or compostable alternatives

🌿 100% of SSPs brand packaging was reusable, recyclable or compostable.

♻️ Trialled replacing plastic hot beverage lids with plastic-free, and plan to roll these out to all units in 2024

☕ All coffee shops now offer dairy alternatives, and all hot beverages are certified Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade or UTZ
